How an Office Worker Survives a 2-Week Fast
Schedule Adjustment
From the 3rd to the 5th day of the fast, your brain doesn't work very well. This is because your brain gets foggy as glucose runs out and ketones are produced. If you try to write an important proposal during this period, you'll just end up working overtime. On Monday and Tuesday, you need to finish tasks that require thinking while relying on your remaining glycogen. Starting Wednesday, schedule chores like organizing Excel files or simple document reviews. After saving your energy with a light walk over the weekend, your concentration to handle complex data analysis returns starting from the second week.
Handling Company Dinners
When people around you hear you've started a 2-week fast, they freak out and worry. If you bring up the word diet, a boring lecture starts, so use the excuse of a medical stomach rest protocol. To your boss, just say you are letting your stomach rest for a moment to treat a stomach cramp, and they will usually let it slide. Sitting at a company dinner and enduring it without eating anything just increases awkwardness. As soon as you sit down, order sparkling water with a lemon slice, fill your glass, and participate in cheers. Instead of food, constantly throw questions at your colleagues to take control of the conversation.
Sleep Routine
When you enter ketosis, your body switches to survival mode. Every night, your eyes stay wide open, cortisol secretion increases, and you can't sleep. As electrolytes are depleted, your calves might even get cramps. To break this state of arousal that visits every night, you need to completely change your evening environment. When it hits 9 PM, change the living room lighting to orange indirect lighting. At 9:30 PM, turn off your smartphone screen and drink 300 milligrams of magnesium glycinate with lukewarm water. Soaking your feet in warm water for about 15 minutes relaxes the tension in your brain so you can head to bed.
First Meal Management
If you suddenly put food in after eating nothing for 14 days, your digestive system won't be able to handle it. If you throw in high carbohydrates while pancreas and stomach acid secretion are halted, you can get hypophosphatemia, which is dangerous. For 48 hours right after the fast ends, you must wake up your stomach very carefully. For the first 12 hours, drink only 150 milligrams of warm bone broth. The next day, eat some well-boiled spinach soup or a single poached egg, and after that, fill up on 100 grams of steamed cod. You must follow this sequence to prevent binge eating and return to daily life without a stomachache.
