00:00:00I've never used After Effects in my life, but GPT-6 Astra has made me a pro.
00:00:05Well, maybe not a pro, but it's allowed me to actually play in the space when I have no business
00:00:10doing so. Now, Astra is a huge leap forward in terms of motion design because it can control
00:00:15After Effects from Codex itself. And this is made possible in large part by the Higgsfield
00:00:20Motion Designer plugin. And the cool thing about this plugin is it's totally free. This doesn't
00:00:24use Higgsfield credits. It's simply a Higgsfield plugin that's totally open source that you can
00:00:29bring into Codex and it controls After Effects for us. This also applies to things like
00:00:33Blender. And so when you combine all these tools, you get the ability to act as a motion
00:00:37designer and create these motion graphics, even if you have no experience with these tools.
00:00:41So in today's video, I'm going to show you exactly how you can set this up and the sort
00:00:45of prompts you need to get the most out of this. Now, I'm going to teach you in three steps
00:00:49how to achieve these motion graphics using After Effects via GPT-6 Astra. But to do that,
00:00:55you're going to need three things. One, you obviously need Astra. Two,
00:00:59you need to have downloaded After Effects. And three, you need the Motion Designer plugin.
00:01:03I'll put a link to this plugin down in the description. But remember, this is free. It's
00:01:06open source. Once you go to this link, all you got to do, click this button here, install
00:01:11the plugin. Two, once it's installed, to use the plugin, you just need to use
00:01:15at Higgsfield slash use After Effects. Or you can just say in plain language inside of Codex,
00:01:20hey, I want to use the Higgsfield After Effects plugin skill to do all this. And that's pretty
00:01:24much it. The cool thing about this plugin is it not only acts as a bridge between GPT-6
00:01:28and After Effects. It also includes a number of skills that essentially teach GPT-6 how best to
00:01:33prompt and use After Effects. And via that Higgsfield bridge, Astra is going to, with a combination of
00:01:39scripts and computer use, control After Effects to create your videos for you. Again, I've never used
00:01:44After Effects in my life. It did all this. Everything you see here. I didn't click a single button.
00:01:49Now, the first thing you need to do, and this is step one, is storyboard. So when I created this
00:01:54motion graphic, what I did not do was simply jump into Codex, give Astra a prompt and expect it to
00:02:00hop into After Effects and give me a final output that I'd like. Instead, what I did is I had it
00:02:05create a storyboard so I could see visually what it was thinking and we could get on the same page
00:02:09that way. And that initial storyboard looks something like this. You can see some of the elements
00:02:13from the storyboard that had eventually made it to the final production. I eventually cut it from 18
00:02:18seconds all the way to 10. But this was way easier to have a conversation with Astra where I could
00:02:23visually see what it was thinking of building before it went to After Effects than just giving it a
00:02:28prompt and then editing after the fact. One of the things you need to be aware of is when we create
00:02:32these things with After Effects, it does take some time. Sometimes it takes 10, 15, 20 minutes to create
00:02:37a 15, 20 second motion graphic. So the more work we can do on the front end to make sure we're on the
00:02:42same page with Astra, the better. Because what you don't want to do is just get into this prompt loop where
00:02:47you're just prompting it again and again and again, even sitting at your computer for hours and hours and
00:02:51hours. So doing the storyboard is huge and it's perfect for Astra because it already has a built in
00:02:56image generation tool. If you're doing this inside something like cloud code, obviously you would need
00:03:01to use like the Higgs field MCP to actually bring in some sort of image generation. And by the way,
00:03:06this GitHub repo you're looking at has all the videos you see in today's video, as well as their
00:03:11prompts. And I'll give you a link to this down below. And for the storyboard in particular,
00:03:16I have this template you can use. And I have templates as well for the actual build itself,
00:03:21as well as revisions. Now, the other cool thing you can do is actually give Astra reference videos
00:03:28for it to pull some like motion design elements into your creation. This one you see right here,
00:03:34this sort of whiteboard is basically an exact copy of a video. I saw the head designer at Higgs field
00:03:40post on Twitter. So I gave Astra that post and I'll show it right here. This was the post I linked to
00:03:47it. It took a look at its video, took appropriate screenshots, and then it used that to sort of guide
00:03:53its own creation. Now, the version I created with Astra isn't an exact one for one copy, but it can get
00:03:58you moving in the right direction. So if you find videos out there that have like cool effects that
00:04:02essentially you want to bring in to your creation, that's a great way to do it. So step number one is
00:04:07to storyboard some idea from scratch or find reference videos and then storyboard from there. What is step
00:04:13two? Well, step two is where we finally give Codex an actual prompt or really what you're going to do is
00:04:18you're going to have Codex create the prompt on its own. Now your prompt needs to be relatively detailed. And
00:04:22this is the prompt I use for that whiteboard video. Right off the bat, we give it some
00:04:26direction saying I want a 12 second whiteboard animation in Adobe After Effects using the
00:04:32installed Higgs field After Effects integration. I pointed at some reference files, and then I also
00:04:37break down the beats. So the beats are like actual scenes that I want to see in my animation. And this
00:04:43should be related to your storyboard. Remember, the storyboard isn't just for us to thematically
00:04:47figure out what's going on. This is for us to pull from the storyboard and then put it in a prompt.
00:04:52And Codex will do this all automatically. Furthermore, we kind of want to break down
00:04:56what we want the motion to actually look like. And that's where it gets kind of tough because if you're
00:05:01not a motion designer, I'm not a motion designer. How do we know what to do here? Well, we have the
00:05:07reference video. So if you find reference videos, that's great. You can drop those into Codex and say,
00:05:11hey, can you bring that into our prompt? Or what you can do, because I've done some of this work for
00:05:15you, is simply go to this GitHub repo, clone this GitHub repo, have Codex take a look at the prompts
00:05:22I have here, take a look at the prompt templates, and then have it fill it out for you based on your
00:05:26storyboards. And remember, you can put Codex to work too. Have it go out on the web, tell it you want
00:05:30it to find the best practices for Adobe After Effects. Have it create some sort of file that shows the
00:05:36different types of motion graphics that are even available to you. Because again, if you're not a
00:05:39motion designer, what's going to kill you is you just don't know what you don't know. So have Codex
00:05:44create a library of different motion design effects for you. Codex can do all these things, you just
00:05:48have to kind of get creative. But when in doubt, point it at this GitHub repo, and that will give you a
00:05:52good place to start. From there, you just tell Codex to start building. And again, it can take some time
00:05:57for this 15 second video, it took it 22 minutes and 56 seconds. And again, this doesn't cost any Higgs
00:06:02field credits, which is awesome. And using the plugin Codex will automatically check its work,
00:06:07it's usually going to check it against that storyboard, and it will then begin the render
00:06:11on its own. From there, it's then going to check the final render, and it's going to present you the
00:06:15video inside of Codex itself, it will then link you to the project itself, and give you all of the assets.
00:06:21So it's completely hands off as it creates all this. Now after Astra has created its motion graphics,
00:06:25then we move on to step three, which is editing. Now if you have any idea what you're doing
00:06:29inside of After Effects, you can obviously do what you need to do inside of After Effects itself.
00:06:33But just like we've done in step one and two, we are simply a prompt away from editing whatever we
00:06:38want to edit. Now this isn't limited just to the graphics itself, you can obviously edit that with
00:06:43the prompts, but this also includes the audio. So the actual sound design and the music going on in the
00:06:47background. Now for reference for all these videos you saw here, I usually got here in like two or three
00:06:52total iterations. In general, some things I did notice is that if you aren't really on top of
00:06:58the transitions and the speeds between each beat, it tends to linger. So it likes to do like two and a
00:07:04half to three second sort of scenes, which like really drags on versus something like this where you
00:07:10notice it is relatively snappy and how it goes from one to the other. And if you aren't really on top of
00:07:15that, it will kind of drag on. And while I think prompts for doing these sort of edits should be
00:07:19pretty straightforward, I did include a template. The big thing to take away from here is should be
00:07:23very specific about when and what you are actually trying to change. And unless you really know what
00:07:28you're doing, I would probably also try to stay away from creating some sort of loop for these videos.
00:07:33They do take a lot of time. And in general, when we're talking about creative things and content
00:07:37creation with AI in general, you definitely want to be hands on and have a human in the loop for sure.
00:07:42Don't let this be an autonomous thing where just because you created a storyboard, you think you
00:07:45can use that is sort of the guiding reference that Codex and Astro just going to look at for every
00:07:50single iteration here, because again, it takes a while. So that is the down and dirty video of how
00:07:54to use GPT-6 Astro with After Effects. I think this is an awesome time for anybody who wants to combine
00:08:01AI with motion design because we just haven't been able to do this before. Yeah, we had remotion and yeah,
00:08:07we had hyperframes, but this is different. To use After Effects before required a ton of expertise
00:08:13and a ton of time. And now simply through these AI tools, we are able to play in this domain
00:08:20and it's only going to get better. So I hope you got something out of this. As always,
00:08:25make sure to check out Chase AI Plus if you want to get your hands on both my Codex and Cloud Code
00:08:30Masterclass if you're really serious about this stuff. And other than that, I'll see you around.
