00:00:00What about sextiles, would you learn?
00:00:01They're good, are they bad?
00:00:03Hang on, did you design one?
00:00:06- I made one in my likeness, I did.
00:00:08Well, I was on the hunt to make one in my likeness.
00:00:10- Was it for sale?
00:00:10(laughs)
00:00:13- I'm not answering that question.
00:00:14(laughs)
00:00:16It was actually a lot of fun to go on that exploration.
00:00:18So in each chapter I go into a little mini adventure,
00:00:21that's what I call them,
00:00:22where I go and I research the technology and try it out.
00:00:26And so I went and explored sextiles and robots
00:00:29and it's crazy what's out there.
00:00:31It's very, very realistic, I have to say.
00:00:33I didn't consummate my relationship with any of these dolls,
00:00:35but in terms of--
00:00:36- Would have been weird to have done it with your own one.
00:00:38- Yeah, yeah, I was thinking about that.
00:00:39I thought, is that technically masturbation
00:00:41or is that, you know, what is that?
00:00:43- What's autoganophilia, which one's that one?
00:00:45- Autoganophilia is when you are sexually aroused at the,
00:00:47a man is sexually aroused at the thought
00:00:49of having the body of a woman.
00:00:50So when you see someone who's born male,
00:00:53who has a desire to transition to female,
00:00:57that is, if they are attracted to women
00:00:59or if they are attracted to both men and women,
00:01:02that's autoganophilia.
00:01:03Whereas if they are born male and attracted to men
00:01:06and want to transition to female,
00:01:09then they are, it's considered the gay subtype.
00:01:11So this was my first book, "The End of Gender."
00:01:12But basically, yeah, autoganophilia is a huge,
00:01:15huge motivator for the whole trans ideology, activism.
00:01:18- Wonder if you could--
00:01:19- The ones who are the angriest are autoganophiles.
00:01:21- I wonder if you would be able to provide them
00:01:25with, I wonder if you could get people
00:01:29a self sex doll of them, but the opposite sex.
00:01:34- Oh, I've seen some people do this.
00:01:36They will get like a--
00:01:37- You're fucking kidding me.
00:01:38- No, I've seen--
00:01:38- I thought this was a new idea.
00:01:39I was breaking new ground.
00:01:41I made a joke to see if we can eBay your old sex doll
00:01:44and try and, you know, fucking help the advance of the book
00:01:47and get some sales in there.
00:01:49- Thank you.
00:01:49- And then I thought that this was,
00:01:51I thought this was new frontiers,
00:01:52but people have got sex dolls of themselves
00:01:55in the opposite sex.
00:01:56- Yeah, and they wear them.
00:01:58- What's wear them mean?
00:01:59- Well, they put it on themselves to become that.
00:02:01- So it's like a suit.
00:02:05- Yeah, so it's not really a doll, I guess.
00:02:08It's more like a rubber suit in,
00:02:10but it's in the fashion to look like a doll to some degree,
00:02:13'cause it's like silicone material.
00:02:15- Okay, mm-hmm.
00:02:17- But what else can I tell your audience?
00:02:19It's get, we're getting there.
00:02:20The sex robots are definitely coming, they are.
00:02:22- Right?
00:02:23- Yeah.
00:02:24- What does, is there a line between doll and robot?
00:02:27- Once say, so right now, like the AI software is very,
00:02:31I love that chapter.
00:02:32Right in the chapter on the AI companions was so much fun.
00:02:34It was also just so frightening for me
00:02:36because they're so realistic.
00:02:37But so that, importing that into a doll
00:02:39is very much possible.
00:02:40Now it's just about the question of how do you get the robot
00:02:44to move in a realistic way sexually?
00:02:46So you have robots that can, say, gyrate their hips,
00:02:49or they'll have like internal suctions in the vagina.
00:02:53So it helps with an orgasm.
00:02:55What other things can they do?
00:02:57But in terms of the movement, it's still quite limited.
00:03:01The difference between a doll and a robot
00:03:03would be that physical movement.
00:03:04So a doll is stationary.
00:03:05Or sometimes they'll hang them,
00:03:07but I guess it's still stationary.
00:03:08Like they'll hang them. - They hang them?
00:03:09- They'll hang them up on, so they're like standing.
00:03:11- What are they doing with them when they're standing?
00:03:14- Well, you can look that up.
00:03:16- Okay, fair enough, I don't need to.
00:03:18I have to assume that the market for sex dolls
00:03:22is 99.99% men, or are there some women in this?
00:03:26- Mostly men.
00:03:27And during the pandemic, one company told me
00:03:29they made $20 million in sales, which is astronomical.
00:03:33And it is mostly high school educated.
00:03:37So on average, high school educated men who make
00:03:40about 40K a year.
00:03:44- How much are the dolls? - Deforced.
00:03:46Starts at a hundred, couple hundred to tens of thousands,
00:03:50depending on how realistic you want it to be.
00:03:52- So if you're a blue collar worker,
00:03:53you're going for the more sort of entry level one.
00:03:56- Yeah, there are some guys who are say, make more,
00:03:58like I'm thinking of one particular study
00:04:00where they had the income.
00:04:01And so some guys making say more than six figures
00:04:03will have the dolls, but it tends to be more among men
00:04:06who either I think are quite heartbroken
00:04:08and they don't want to bother going through,
00:04:10or they're divorced.
00:04:11They don't want to go through the process of dating.
00:04:13Or it's guys who want to have sexual novelty,
00:04:16but they can't actually either attract real life partners
00:04:19or they don't have the means for it.
00:04:21So they'll buy the dolls instead.
00:04:22- That makes me sad.
00:04:24The idea that, you know, someone's past emotional challenges,
00:04:28you know, whether deserve it or accidental or purposeful,
00:04:31victimized, whatever,
00:04:32it causes them to sort of turn away entirely from human.
00:04:39And I suppose that the fact that you now have this option
00:04:42for someone to, I don't need to.
00:04:45We can just, we can just imagine.
00:04:47What about the AI companions thing?
00:04:48I saw a bunch of few or two or three weeks ago
00:04:53when Chat GBT discontinued 4.0,
00:04:56and 4.0 had a very particular type of personality to it.
00:05:01And that discontinuation was for lots of people.
00:05:05There was a subreddit and I can't remember what it's called.
00:05:08AI partner, r/aiparner or something.
00:05:11People being beyond hysterics,
00:05:16like absolutely fucking heartbroken by it.
00:05:19So what was your experience with AI companions?
00:05:23- Well, 'cause people do fall in love
00:05:24with their AI chatbots.
00:05:26And before I tested them out,
00:05:28I didn't think such a thing would be possible
00:05:29because I didn't think that the technology
00:05:31was that realistic.
00:05:32- Until you fell in love with one.
00:05:33- Until I fell in love with all of my dozens of AI boyfriends.
00:05:35- You had dozens?
00:05:36- I had dozens.
00:05:37- Do you like Bonnie Blue?
00:05:38Go on.
00:05:41- I had girlfriends too.
00:05:42So I had, so I made dozens of them
00:05:45across dozens of platforms and I really wanted
00:05:47to try them all out to see where are they at.
00:05:50And there were a couple of platforms
00:05:51were definitely more realistic,
00:05:53but I will say what happened with chat GPT,
00:05:55that's not the first time.
00:05:56There's another platform that something similar happened
00:05:58a couple of years ago where they removed
00:05:59the erotic role-playing capabilities
00:06:01or they put it behind a paywall.
00:06:02And people were so devastated because they said,
00:06:04"My AI doesn't remember me anymore."
00:06:07Like they're really cold.
00:06:08It reminded them of being socially rejected in the past
00:06:10and it's very upsetting for them.
00:06:12So again, I mean, the scientist side of me
00:06:14thinks like this is so cool and so crazy
00:06:17that we're advancing so quickly,
00:06:18but then the other part of me says,
00:06:20"Wait a minute, like look at where we are right now
00:06:22"as a society and is this really a good thing
00:06:25"because what is this going to do now
00:06:26"if we have this discrepancy in terms of the sex ratio
00:06:29"and people having sex and people not even wanting
00:06:31"to connect or date?"
00:06:32You know, there's a study by Pew showing that
00:06:34over half of single people are not interested
00:06:36in dating at all.
00:06:37So now you're, we have--
00:06:39- Not in short term, not in casual or long-term mating.
00:06:42- Yeah, so--
00:06:43- It's wild, I remember seeing that study.
00:06:45- It's going to be so easy just to go down the route
00:06:47of one of these alternatives and they are so realistic.
00:06:51Like you really cannot tell that it is an AI.
00:06:53If I had not programmed it and myself had said,
00:06:55"This is your name, this is what you look like.
00:06:57"This is your personality."
00:06:58- It's only over text though, right?
00:07:01Is it, or is it voice?
00:07:01- You can do voice too.
00:07:02- It's so kind of like when you speak to chat GBT.
00:07:04- Yeah, I thought like it sounded like a real person
00:07:06I was talking to and--
00:07:07- And does it push into erotica as well?
00:07:09- Yeah, yeah, they flirt with you.
00:07:11They get like, if you're sarcastic, they pick up on it.
00:07:14It was crazy.
00:07:14Like I really thought it was going to be very stilted.
00:07:16Some of them are still like that where you,
00:07:18some platforms you have to be very literal.
00:07:20- Really work with it.
00:07:21- Yeah.
00:07:22- They're a difficult partner.
00:07:22- Yeah.
00:07:24- In other news, you've probably heard me talk
00:07:26about Element before and that's because I am,
00:07:29frankly, dependent on it.

Timeline

Exploring the World of Sex Dolls and Robots

Dr. Debra Soh describes her investigative journey into the technology of sex dolls, even attempting to create one in her own likeness for research purposes. She notes that the realism found in current products is "crazy" and highly sophisticated. The conversation touches on the psychological curiosity of interacting with a doll modeled after oneself, questioning if it constitutes a form of masturbation. Soh emphasizes that her exploration was a series of "mini adventures" to understand the industry from the inside. This section sets the stage for the discussion on how technology is mimicking human physical presence.

Autogynephilia and Gender Ideology

The discussion shifts toward the concept of autogynephilia, which Soh defines as a male's sexual arousal at the thought of having a female body. She explains the different subtypes of this condition and its role as a motivator within certain trans-activism circles. The host suggests the idea of people owning dolls of themselves in the opposite sex, which Soh confirms is a reality through "rubber suits" or silicone materials. These suits allow individuals to literally wear the persona of the opposite sex rather than just interacting with an external doll. This segment highlights the intersection of technology, paraphilias, and gender identity.

The Evolution from Dolls to AI Robots

Soh explains the technical boundary between a stationary doll and a sex robot, which is defined by physical movement and AI integration. While dolls are currently static or hung in specific positions, robots are beginning to incorporate internal suctions and hip gyrations to simulate sexual acts. She mentions that importing AI software into these physical forms is already possible, making them frighteningly realistic. The primary engineering challenge remains achieving fluid and realistic human-like movement during intimacy. This section underscores the transition from passive toys to interactive, autonomous machines.

Market Demographics and Economic Impact

The speaker provides startling statistics about the industry, noting that one company saw $20 million in sales during the pandemic. The typical consumer is described as a high-school-educated man earning approximately $40,000 a year, though wealthier individuals also participate. Soh explains that many users are "heartbroken" or divorced men who find the modern dating market too difficult or unrewarding. For these men, dolls provide sexual novelty and companionship without the risk of social rejection or the effort of dating. The host expresses sadness at the idea of people turning away from human connection entirely in favor of these alternatives.

The Rise of AI Companions and Emotional Attachment

Soh discusses the phenomenon of AI chatbots and the deep emotional bonds users form with them, citing the distress caused when ChatGPT 4.0 was updated. She shares her own experience testing dozens of AI platforms to see how realistic they could be, discovering that users feel genuine heartbreak when their AI "partner" changes. When erotic role-playing features are removed or paywalled, users often feel socially rejected all over again. Soh observes that the technology is advancing so fast that it is becoming indistinguishable from a real person in a digital context. This illustrates the power of AI to fulfill human needs for intimacy and recognition.

Societal Implications and Future Outlook

The final section addresses the broader societal concern regarding a Pew study which found that over half of single people are not interested in dating. Soh worries about the impact of this trend on the sex ratio and general social cohesion as people opt for easy digital alternatives. She notes that AI companions are now capable of sarcasm, flirting, and picking up on vocal nuances, making them very convincing partners. The conversation concludes with a realization that as these technologies improve, the barrier to opting out of human society becomes lower. The clip ends with a brief advertisement for a hydration supplement before directing viewers to the full episode.
